At clocking in at just under 5 feet tall, I consistently find it difficult to find clothing and gear that fits me. This has led to me buying items that are too big or were designed for a child and not someone who is an adult. Ill-fitting clothing and gear don’t just plague those who aren’t a normal size but affect most individuals in the outdoor community. This poses a serious problem seeing as the better your gear fits the less likely you are to experience discomfort or sustain an injury. Creating outdoor gear that is tailored to support every different type of person is a goal that I have in my pursuit to becoming an Outdoor Product Designer.
Design hasn’t always been an overwhelming part of my life, but as I’ve grown, so have my interests in the design world. It started when I dabbled in pattern designing for knitting and has expanded to heat transfer designs, embroidery detailing and a myriad of sewing skills. Most of these are skills that deal with the aesthetics of the design, but as my areas of interest have grown, so have my talents, both in design and in the outdoors.
It is important to me that my future as an Outdoor Product Designer is full of sustainable, durable and life-changing products. As I strive for perfection, my work will reflect that and will be recognized in the outdoor community as products that are perceived as exceptional in every aspect.
